Multi-brand installation

Several battery and inverter brands, one control loop

You added a second battery from another brand, and each app lives in its own bubble. TED brings every inverter and battery visible in Home Assistant under a single setpoint.

Sounds familiar?

  • Two (or more) apps to manage your batteries, and they do not talk to each other.
  • One battery drains while the other stays full.
  • You hesitate to buy a battery from another brand in case it will not fit in.
  • Your first brand's HEMS refuses to include the new device.

Why it is hard

Each manufacturer designs its HEMS (the "brain" that decides when to charge and discharge) for its own devices. It knows nothing about the other battery in your consumer unit: not its power, not its state of charge.

The result: two systems reading the same meter and each making its own decisions. At best they share the work badly, at worst they work against each other.

Home Assistant sees all your devices through each brand's integration. But on its own it cannot split a setpoint between them: you would have to write and maintain complex automations.

The solution

The features involved

Anything in Home Assistant

The entities the integrations already expose are enough: state of charge, power, charge or discharge setpoint. No extra hardware.

One setpoint, smartly shared

The power to deliver or absorb is split according to capacity, discharging the fullest batteries first and charging the emptiest first.

No software cap

Add as many inverters and batteries as you need, from any brand, with no per-device license (ACCESS and FULL POWER licenses; the FREE license controls 2).

Monitored devices

A device you cannot (or do not want to) control is included read-only: it is taken into account without ever receiving a command.

Getting it running

  1. 1

Bring each device into Home Assistant

Install each brand's integration (Zendure, Anker SOLIX, Huawei Solar, Victron…) and check that state of charge and power values show up.

  2. 2

    Install the software

As an app on Home Assistant OS, or with Docker on a NAS or mini-PC.

  3. 3

    Add your inverters

For each one, pick its entities and its type: controlled or monitored. Test communication, then apply.

  4. 4

    Set your limits

Maximum charge and discharge power, minimum and maximum battery levels: they are enforced for every device.

Frequently asked questions

Which brands can I mix?

Any brand whose Home Assistant integration exposes state of charge, power values and a controllable setpoint. Zendure is tested and validated on our installations; Huawei, SMA, Victron, Deye, Anker SOLIX and others are compatible through their integration. Details are on the Compatibility page.

Do I have to remove each manufacturer's app?

No. In assisted mode, one brand's HEMS can keep control of its own devices while the others come in as reinforcement. In autonomous mode, the whole installation is regulated as one.

My batteries have different capacities, is that a problem?

No: power is split according to each battery's capacity and level, within the maximum power you set for each inverter.
